Frequently asked questions
What is MyResearch?
MyResearch is UQ’s new web-based workflow solution to support activities associated with the research lifecycle. The ethics component of MyResearch is the first stage of implementation. It will use digital workflows for tasks associated with obtaining and managing ethics approval for human and animal research.
The projects component of MyResearch is the second stage of implementation. It will deliver research administration activities for contract research, standard consultancy, competitive grants (including internal schemes) and strategic internal schemes.
Who will use MyResearch?
The ethics component of MyResearch will be used by researchers, research support teams, Office of Research Ethics (ORE) and members of ethics committees. Researchers and users from external organisations can be granted access to the new system.
Researchers will create ethics applications, apply for ratification, registration, exemptions and make amendments to existing approved applications. They will report adverse events and generate annual reports. Applications not requiring full approval, for animal research, will also be managed in MyResearch.
Office of Research Ethics staff will view all submitted applications and supporting documents, release applications and assign them to committee for review. The agenda for committee meetings will be created in MyResearch, and ORE staff will record and release reviewers’ decision and comments to researchers. An approval certificate will be issued. Annual reporting auto notifications will be a system feature.
Ethics committee members will view assigned applications and supporting documents, view application history, accept or decline assigned applications and submit their review.
All UQ users will login using their UQ username and password. A role-based dashboard will show current active tasks. Email notifications will be automatically sent by the system for specific action points.
What are the benefits?
- Higher quality applications supported by mandatory data fields and inbuilt prompts to guide researchers on the required information, reducing revisions or requests for additional information
- Efficiency enabled by digital workflows, reducing the time required to manage ethics applications
- Email notifications will advise users of the status of key points in the process, e.g. decisions or approvals
- Real time access to information as users can log in at any time to view the status of their tasks
- Timely reporting supported by email prompts on due dates for compliance reporting.
When will it be available?
MyResearch will be implemented in two stages. The ethics component of MyResearch is expected to be delivered in late 2020. The projects component of MyResearch is expected to be delivered in Q3/Q4 2021.
Keep monitoring the training and support page to monitor key dates on the MyResearch intranet for implementation activities.
How does MyResearch link to other UQ enterprise systems?
MyResearch is an enterprise system that is integrated with Aurion and mySI-net for staff and student details, and TRIM for managing UQ records. In system user dashboards will provide most users with the information required. When MyResearch user dashboards do not meet University reporting requirements, enterprise reporting will use the UQ Reportal.
What systems will be retired with the implementation of MyResearch?
ResearchMaster is no longer supported and lacks key functionality required by UQ to manage human ethics research. The human research ethics module in ResearchMaster will be retired with the implementation of the ethics component of MyResearch. ResearchMaster will be retired in full with the implementation of the projects component of MyResearch.
Animal ethics database will be retired with the implementation of the ethics component of MyResearch.
Some legacy ethics applications exist in Belberry, BSSERC and MREC. These applications will be transitioned to the new system. Any extensions to existing approvals for these ethics applications will need to be resubmitted in MyResearch.
