Consumer and Community Involvement (CCI) in research happens when there is an active partnership between researchers and consumers and community members who may benefit, directly or indirectly, from the research.

Consumers and community members can play crucial roles across various types of research, ranging from basic science to clinical or applied research, as well as health services research. Meaningful consumer involvement considerably bolsters research quality and forms a vital aspect of producing research aligned to community needs, with the value of CCI increasingly recognised by funding bodies and research institutions.

Join us for a panel conversation moderated by HaBS Associate Dean Research, Prof Greg Monteith. Our panellists bring diverse backgrounds and extensive experience in the CCI space, offering valuable insights into its vital role. The discussion will explore the importance of consumer involvement and how we involve consumers and community members in genuine, inclusive, and meaningful ways.

Our panel members are:

  • Dr Ciara Shiggins, Queensland Aphasia Research Centre (QARC)
  • Dr Frederik Steyn, School of Biomedical Sciences
  • Ahlia Griffiths, consumer-researcher, Australian Women and Girls' Health Research Centre
