Sex, Sleep & the Subconscious: What flies tell us about the brain - In-person event
Join us for a fascinating panel discussion exploring the surprising ways fruit flies are helping scientists unlock the mysteries of the human brain. The event brings together leading experts in fly science from UQ’s Queensland Brain Institute including Professor Barry Dickson, Professor Bruno van Swinderen and Dr Deniz Ertekin – to explore the question: What can a tiny fly teach us about the brain?
From decision-making and selective attention to love, lust and logic, the panellists will delve into the fly’s remarkable brain as a model for understanding emotion, memory and even the subconscious. Discover how Drosophilia research reveals unexpected parallels to human behaviour and consciousness, and how these insights intersect with emerging questions in neuroscience and AI. The event includes an interactive Q&A and a thought-provoking reflection on what humans can learn from the humble fruit fly.
