Early to Mid-Career Researchers Industry Engagement Awards
The UQ Early to Mid-Career Researchers Industry Engagement Awards celebrate outstanding examples of high-impact collaborations between early- to mid-career researchers (EMCRs) and industry partners.
These awards celebrate the achievements of UQ researchers, who through partner engagement and collaboration are translating research into industry impact.
Each faculty and institute will select one (1) winner, who will receive $2,500, funded by the researcher’s faculty or institute, to help facilitate ongoing academic/industry collaboration.
An overall winner will then be selected from the faculty and institute winners, which will be announced as part of the Research Partnerships and Translation (RPAT) Awards on 3 October 2024 at Customs House. (Prize: Trip to 2025 'Science meets Parliament' event).

2023 Winners - EMCR Industry Engagement Awards
Early to Mid-Career Researchers recognised for their industry collaboration
UQ has celebrated its connections with industry and the accomplishments of its emerging researchers at the second annual Early to Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) Industry Engagement Awards.
The awards celebrate high-impact and collaborative research partnerships between EMCRs and industry, with 15 projects awarded across the University’s faculties and institutes.
UQ Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Deborah Terry AO recognised the need to connect with industry, government and the non-profit sector to develop an effective innovation ecosystem in Queensland and ensure that UQ research translates into tangible outcomes in the community.
“The task of incubating new knowledge – and pushing at the boundaries of knowledge – will always be a core function of every great university. However, it’s also very important to acknowledge that the process of translating our research discoveries into innovation simply does not – and cannot – happen in isolation.
“And this is the reason why we, at UQ, are placing an increasing emphasis on ensuring that our researcher community is actively engaged in collaborating with partners beyond the boundaries of our campus.”
UQ has a long history of acknowledging EMCRs through development and training opportunities, as well as support for grants and entrepreneurship.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Mark Blows said the diversity of projects recognised in the awards highlighted the breadth of talent in UQ’s EMCRs.
“We recognise the need to nurture new ideas, perspectives and the considerable talent of our emerging researchers,” he said. “It is through their new initiatives that we can grow research capability not only at UQ, but across the wider national research workforce and make a positive impact in our community.”
