Key Dates for UQ RIIS 2026

  • Round opens: 17 April 2026
  • Requests for cash contributions from Faculties and Institutes must be discussed with the administering Faculty/Institute Research Manager as soon as possible for submission with application by the deadline.
  • Full applications due 5 pm, Friday 5 June 2026 (previously 22 May)
  • Anticipated announcement: August 2026 

Overview

UQ Research Infrastructure Investment Scheme (UQ RIIS) is a competitive scheme for infrastructure/equipment funding, which encourages the purchase of equipment that will be used collaboratively.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Equipment Grant is also distributed through this scheme, with allocations broadly on a pro-rata basis to those Faculties and Institutes that generate NHMRC income.

How to apply:

Applicants should be aware that Faculties/Institutes will require applications for review and arranging their cash support emails, prior to the closing date. Please contact your Faculty or Institute Research Manager for details.

  • Step 1: Familiarise yourself with the UQ Research Infrastructure Investment Scheme (UQ RIIS) 2026 Guidelines and Conditions of Award.
  • Step 2: Begin discussions on proposed infrastructure and collate costs of infrastructure, costs of operation, and scientific supporters
  • Step 3: Seek cash contributions from collaborating Schools/institutes and discuss with your School Manager/Head of School. A 2026 UQ RIIS Cash Commitment Proforma will be required detailing each contribution.
  • Step 4: For requests for cash contributions from Faculties/Institutes discuss with your Faculty or Institute Research Manager as soon as possible before the close date. Failure to secure co-investment, of at least 35%, may result in the application not being considered.
  • Step 5: Complete your application using the online Application Form including uploading confirmed co-investment document/s.
  • Step 6: Applications will be reviewed by the Research Infrastructure Office.
  • Step 7: A Central Selection Committee will assess applications in alignment with the selection criteria outlined in the UQ RIIS 2026 Guidelines.
  • Step 8: Outcomes will be communicated to CI’s and Faculty/Institute Executive.
