The Research and Innovation portfolio undertakes regular reviews of Research policies and procedures to align with the objectives of the UQ Governance and Management Framework Policy. The review process assesses the current state of Research policies and procedures and considers recommendations for revision, deletion, creation and consolidation of documents.

Moderate revision.  Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation)

Key revisions introduced:

  1. Including a question in the staff recruitment and HDR student admissions process to help determine whether individuals may have a connection to a sanctioned country that warrants assessment.
  2. To only require the input of Associate Deans (Research) and Institute Deputy Directors (Research) where the International Safeguards team deems the case to be higher risk.
  3. To transfer responsibility for sanctions assessment for HDR students from the UQ Graduate School to the International Safeguards team, who will in turn provide a recommendation to the UQ Graduate School.

Moderate revision. Approved by the Vice-Chancellor.

Revisions introduced include:

  1. Indirect Cost Recovery rate increased to 50% when pricing research and standard consultancy proposal.
  2. HDR Scholarships will be expected to include at least 50% tuition fees when pricing proposals to a commercial partner.
  3. A Service Cost Recovery Charge model will be introduced for Rural Development Corporations and industry-sponsored clinical trials.

The revised procedure does not introduce any new requirements and aims to improve clarity on existing processes.

6 June 20236 June 2023Managing Complaints about the Conduct of Research - Higher Degree by Research Candidates - Procedure

Moderate revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).

Revisions included a title change of the procedure, which was previously named: 'Research Misconduct - Higher Degree by Research Students'. The format of the procedure was also updated to improve clarity on the process of making and managing formal complaints.

There were no changes introduced to the core principles of the policy. The incorporated revisions included aligning the policy to the new template and improving clarity.
