A minor revision to the Policy was made to ensure alignment with UQ's Naming Policy and Procedure and to remove the lapsed transition period.

Amendments were made to the Procedure to require the applicaton of Indirect Costs to Higher Degree by Research (HDR) scholarship costs that are funded by commercial entities. 50% of tution fees will no longer be included in the price of industry-funded scholarships.

The new Procedure supports the Collaborative Research Platform and UQ-Hosted NCRIS Activity Policy, and outlines the processes for the establishment, reporting, review and disestablishment of Collaborative Research Platforms (CRPs), and the governance and operational requirements for CRPs and UQ-Hosted NCRIS Activities.

The new Policy was developed to outline the framework and operational principles for the establishment, governance, reporting, review and disestablishment of Collaborative Research Platforms (CRPs) and the principles for the governance and reporting for all UQ-Hosted NCRIS Activities.

Key revisions:

1. Clarification that Human Research Ethics approval is generally provided for a period of 5 years.
2. The assessment of risk severity has been simplified to include 'lower risk research' and 'higher risk research'. The category of 'negligible risk research' has been removed, in alignment with the 2023 National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research. 
3. Information provided on the exemption of ethics review for lower risk research conducted as part of an educational training program. 
4. General updates to improve clarity and align terminologies to the updated National Statement.

Key revisions introduced:

1. Including a question in the staff recruitment and HDR student admissions process to help determine whether individuals may have a connection to a sanctioned country that warrants assessment.
2. To only require the input of Associate Deans (Research) and Institute Deputy Directors (Research) where the International Safeguards team deems the case to be higher risk.
3. To transfer responsibility for sanctions assessment for HDR students from the UQ Graduate School to the International Safeguards team, who will in turn provide a recommendation to the UQ Graduate School.

Revisions introduced include:

1. Indirect Cost Recovery rate increased to 50% when pricing research and standard consultancy proposal.
2. HDR Scholarships will be expected to include at least 50% tuition fees when pricing proposals to a commercial partner.
3. A Service Cost Recovery Charge model will be introduced for Rural Development Corporations and industry-sponsored clinical trials.

New guidelines to support the Open Access for UQ Research Publications - Policy, which was revised in December 2022.

The revised procedure does not introduce any new requirements and aims to improve clarity on existing processes.

Moderate revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation).

Revisions included a title change of the procedure, which was previously named: 'Research Misconduct - Higher Degree by Research Students'. The format of the procedure was also updated to improve clarity on the process of making and managing formal complaints.

There were no changes introduced to the core principles of the policy. The incorporated revisions included aligning the policy to the new template and improving clarity.

Updated references and provision to allow researchers, other than the lead investigator, to submit applications in MyResearch.

Emphasis placed on encouraging collaboration between researchers and the University's commercialisation companies. The revised procedure also includes a new commercialisation pathway for 'Researcher-led start-ups'.
