Research policy review

The Research and Innovation portfolio undertakes regular reviews of Research policies and procedures to align with the objectives of the UQ Governance and Management Framework Policy. The review process assesses the current state of Research policies and procedures and considers recommendations for revision, deletion, creation and consolidation of documents.

Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Key revisions introduced: Including a question in the staff recruitment and HDR student admissions process to help determine whether individuals may have a connection to a sanctioned country that warrants assessment. To only require the input of Associate Deans (Research) and Institute Deputy Directors (Research) where the International Safeguards team deems the case to be higher risk. To transfer responsibility for sanctions assessment for HDR students from the UQ Graduate School to the International Safeguards team, who will in turn provide a recommendation to the UQ Graduate School.
27 November 2023	29 September 2023	Research and Consultancy Costing and Pricing Procedure	Moderate revision. Approved by the Vice-Chancellor. Revisions introduced include: Indirect Cost Recovery rate increased to 50% when pricing research and standard consultancy proposal. HDR Scholarships will be expected to include at least 50% tuition fees when pricing proposals to a commercial partner. A Service Cost Recovery Charge model will be introduced for Rural Development Corporations and industry-sponsored clinical trials.
27 November 2023	29 September 2023	Administration of Research Funding: Applications, Grants and Contract Research Policy	Minor revision. Approved by the Vice-Chancellor. Administrative edits to improve clarity.
15 August 2023	15 August 2023	Open Access for Research Publications - Guidelines	New. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). New guidelines to support the Open Access for UQ Research Publications - Policy, which was revised in December 2022.
25 July 2023	25 July 2023	Animal Ethics in Teaching and Research - Procedure	Minor revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). The revised procedure does not introduce any new requirements and aims to improve clarity on existing processes.
6 June 2023	6 June 2023	Managing Complaints about the Conduct of Research - Higher Degree by Research Candidates - Procedure	Moderate revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). Revisions included a title change of the procedure, which was previously named: 'Research Misconduct - Higher Degree by Research Students'. The format of the procedure was also updated to improve clarity on the process of making and managing formal complaints.
3 March 2023	13 December 2022	Open Access for UQ Research Publication - Policy	Moderate revision. Approved by the Vice-Chancellor. There were no changes introduced to the core principles of the policy. The incorporated revisions included aligning the policy to the new template and improving clarity.
17 January 2023	17 January 2023	Human Research Ethics - Procedure	Minor revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). Updated references and provision to allow researchers, other than the lead investigator, to submit applications in MyResearch.
30 November 2022	30 November 2022	Research Centres and Research Networks - Policy	New. Approved by UQ Senate. Content replaces the previous Establishment, Management & Closure of Institutes, Centres, & Research Networks - Policy, which was rescinded in November 2022.

Revision to Section 3.1.5.1 (Insurance declaration and notification) to reflect updated requirements for the notification and declaration of clinical trials involving minors.

27 September 2022	27 September 2022	Researcher-Led Start-Up Pathway - Guideline	New. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). New guideline to provide clarity on the requirements and operational considerations for the researcher-led start-ups pathway.
27 September 2022	27 September 2022	Intellectual Property - Procedure	Major revision. Approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation). Emphasis placed on encouraging collaboration between researchers and the University's commercialisation companies. The revised procedure also includes a new commercialisation pathway for 'Researcher-led start-ups'.
