UQ researchers are required by UQ policy to submit applications for any research proposal through the RO. The Research Office, which works closely with Faculties and Institutes to support research endeavours.

For HDR students applying for external research training scholarships, the UQ Graduate School will be able to assist you.

All applications for research funding at UQ must be accompanied by a UQ Funding Application Certification form.

This is a general framework for Chief Investigators applying for research grants. Your School/Centre/Institute may also have their own internal application processes.

A flow chart that visually represents the steps of process of applying for funding with decorative icons to represent each step. These steps are, in order from first to last, eligibility, deadlines, inform, prepare, letter of support?, prepare budget, approval, send to RO, and submit.

2. Check your deadlines

There are a number of deadlines you need to be aware of including:

  • The funder's deadline (listed in the funder's guidance documentation)
  • Internal School/Centre/Institute deadlines (your organisational unit will share these with you)
  • The Research Office (RO) also has a number of deadlines that you need to meet (see Step 8).

Planning to meet the applicable RO compliance close date is essential, especially in cases where, e.g., an institutional letter of support is required, where UQ is the applicant or it is a restricted call. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the RO only checking for compliance with UQ policy and procedure.

Even if the funding body allows direct online submissions, please notify the RO beforehand. It is important to note that individuals or units cannot make commitments on behalf of the University.
