Overview
The goal of the ARC Industry Fellowships Program is to create a pathway to support academic researchers in establishing careers in industry, and industry-based researchers to work in university settings, with the aim of an increased two-way mobility and skill-building in research collaboration, translation and commercialisation. The scheme will also drive research collaboration, translation and commercialisation outcomes across a range of industry settings.
There are three levels of Industry Fellowships:
Early Career Industry Fellowships
- The Early Career Industry fellow will receive a contribution to salary and salary-related on-costs of $121,703 per year for 1-3 years.
- Project costs of up to $150,000 may be requested over the duration of the grant.
Mid-Career Industry Fellowships
- The Mid-Career Industry Fellow will receive a contribution to salary and salary-related on-costs of $222,950 per year for 2-4 years.
- Project costs not exceeding $290,000 may be requested over the duration of the grant.
Industry Laureate Fellowships
- The Industry Laureate Fellow will receive a contribution to salary and salary-related on-costs of $193,868 per year for 4-5 years.
- Contribution to salary support (of $119,031 per year) for two Postdoctoral Research Associates (PDRA) will be provided for 4–5 years each
- Contribution to stipend support ($32,212 per year) for two Postgraduate Researchers (PGR) will be provided for 4 years each
- Project costs not exceeding $1.5 million may be requested over the duration of the grant
- Up to $20,000 per year (additional to project costs) will be provided to support ambassadorial work promoting industry-university collaboration.
How to apply
Early and Mid-Career Industry Fellowship internal Notice of Intent (NoI) process
Researchers intending to submit an ARC Early or Mid-Career Industry Fellowship 2025 application are required to submit a mandatory internal UQ Notice of Intent (open now). NOIs will be collated centrally and distributed to Faculties and Institutes in order to provide maximum support to the UQ research community.
Laureate Industry Fellowship internal nomination process:
Given the extraordinarily competitive nature of the scheme, UQ will again determine its applicant field via a mandatory internal nomination process. Nominations will be accepted through Schools, Centres, Faculties and Institutes. Nominations should be submitted as soon as possible to Linkage@research.uq.edu.au and include:
- Nomination form (DOCX, 2.1 MB)
- An up-to-date CV of the nominee;
- A brief supporting statement from the Executive Dean/Associate Dean Research/Institute Director/Institute Deputy Director as to the strength of the candidate and their alignment with UQ impact themes and areas of recognised strength, or other strategies being spearheaded by the Faculty/Institute.
- An email of support from Head of Department (i.e. Head of School) if different from supporting statement provider.
Step 1. RMS updates and scheme reading
- Update your full profile in RMS ‘Person Profile’. If any team members are new to RMS and need a login/password, start early.
- Familiarise yourself with the key Australian Research Council (ARC) and UQ documentation.
Step 2. Completing the application
- Log into RMS and complete the application.
Step 3. UQ R&I internal review and feedback
- Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete and valid, generate a whole Application PDF for your records and select 'Submit to Research Office' in RMS to submit the application.
- To initiate review, email your completed Application Certification Form (see documents below) to UQ R&I at linkage@research.uq.edu.au
- If lodging a Request Not to Assess, complete the form in RMS by the internal closing date.
- Internal review by UQ R&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantscraft).
Step 4. Final submission
- Final submission by UQ R&I to the ARC.
UQ Information Session
To assist applicants in preparing their applications, the Research Office held an Information Session on Tuesday 8 October 2024. This session included a scheme overview, key findings from past rounds, the application and submission process, and a Q&A session with ARC College of Experts members. The slides and recording of this session are available on our UQ R&I presentations and slides webpage.
