Research in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
The University of Queensland (UQ) has been accredited by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) - see Memorandum of Understanding. This accreditation allows UQ to approve applications to conduct limited impact research (extractive or non-extractive) on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Researchers are reminded that all research activities must be conducted in line with:
- Australian code for the care and use of animals for scientific research
- Responsible Research Management Framework Policy;
- Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Cth);
- Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 1983 (Cth); and
- UQ / GBRMPA Memorandum of Understanding.
Research involving the use of animals including observational studies will require ethics approval from a UQ AEC. Please visit 'Do I need approval' for further information.
Applications must be made through the Faculty of Science. For more details, including permit assessment information and application forms, please contact the Science Non-Research Contracts team at sciencecontracts-nonresearch@uq.edu.au.
