Overview

The Clinical Research Fellowships (CRFs) are intended to support Queensland Health clinician researchers undertake research linked to their practice. The Targeted CRF (TCRF) program sits alongside the general CRF program and is designed to support researchers and their high-impact research projects within the following five streams:

  • Novice Researcher (Regional, Rural and Remote) – Up to $30,000 over 1 year.
  • Rural & Remote – Up to $125,000 over 1-2 years.
  • First Nations – Up to $125,000 over 1-2 years.
  • Women and Girls’ Health – Up to $125,000 over 1-2 years.
  • Genomics – Up to $125,000 over 1-2 years.

Each stream has mandatory criteria which applicants are required to meet and address in their applications. A $10,000 mentorship supplement is also available for eligible researchers to support the fostering of a successful mentorship relationship between the eligible researcher and a more experienced researcher. QLD Health Briefing Sessions

Queensland Health has scheduled two briefing sessions for prospective applicants to understand the new online application process and to ask any questions.

  • Session 1: Friday, 11 October 2024, 12pm – 1pm
  • Session 2: Wednesday, 23 October 2024, 12pm – 1pm

How to apply

Internal notice of intent process

Researchers intending to submit an application for which UQ will be the administering organisation OR a partner organisation are required to submit an internal Notice of Intent. NOIs will be collated centrally and distributed to Faculties and Institutes in order to provide maximum support to the UQ research community.

UQ as lead (administering) organisation

Step 1:  Scheme information + NOI

  • Familiarise yourself with the key Queensland Health and UQ documentation (see links below).
  • Submit a Notice of Intent.

Step 2: Prepare application documents for review

  • Application documents:
    • Complete RedCap Application Form (see RedCap Guide linked below.)
    • Draft UQ letter of support (template below)
    • Draft employing HHS letter of support (template below)
    • Draft letter(s) of support from other partner organisations
  •  UQ administrative documents:
    • Complete and fully signed Funding Application Coversheet (link below)
    • Complete UQ Costing and Pricing Tool
    • Evidence from Head of School/Institute/Centre that any salary gap will be covered (e.g., email confirmation, incl. gap amounts by year), as appropriate.

Step 3: UQ R&I internal review and feedback

  • In advance of internal review, ensure all required documentation is complete and certified, where necessary.
  • To initiate internal review, email your application documents (including UQ administrative documents) to UQ R&I at grants@research.uq.edu.au,
  • UQ R&I will perform an internal review for compliance, eligibility and grantsmanship and will provide feedback.

Step 4: Final submission

  • Applications must be completed in RedCap.
  • Prior to submission, applications must be signed by you and by the UQ Research Office.

Important information regarding final submission: We strongly encourage applicants to prepare and submit their applications for internal review as early as possible. The official external deadline for applications is 11:59pm on Monday, 2 December 2024. Noting that both your UQ letter of support and your final application will need to be signed and certified, the UQ certification deadline for applications on which UQ is the administering organisation is 9:00am on Monday, 2 December 2024. 

UQ as partner organisation

Researchers submitting applications on which UQ is a partner organisation should send the following documents to UQ R&I as soon as possible:

  • Application form
  • DRAFT UQ letter of support
  • Complete and fully signed UQ Funding Application Coversheet (link below)
  • Evidence of any UQ cash contributions

The UQ Research Office does not have capacity to provide feedback on applications on which UQ is a partner organisation. The application form is requested solely to ensure UQ’s contribution to the prospective Fellowship is accurately reflected in all relevant documents.
