Overview

The Australian Laureate Fellowships scheme supports excellence in research by attracting world-class researchers and research leaders to key positions, and creating new rewards and incentives for the application of their talents in Australia. Preference is given to researchers who will play a significant, sustained leadership and mentoring role in building Australia's internationally competitive research capacity.

How to apply

Internal nomination process

Given the extraordinarily competitive nature of the scheme, UQ will again determine its applicant field via a mandatory internal nomination process. Nominations will be accepted through Schools, Centres, Faculties and Institutes. Nominations should be submitted  as soon as possible to ARCFellowships@research.uq.edu.au and include:

  • nomination form (DOCX, 2.1 MB)*
  • an up-to-date CV of the nominee;
  • a brief supporting statement from the Executive Dean/Associate Dean Research/Institute Director/Institute Deputy Director as to the strength of the candidate and their alignment with UQ impact themes and areas of recognised strength, or other strategies being spearheaded by the Faculty/Institute.
  • An email of support from Head of Department (i.e. Head of School) if different from supporting statement provider.

*Please note, if you are an FL23 applicant awaiting your results, you are not required to complete the Executive Summary section of the nomination form. However, you will be required to provide the other necessary attachments.

Following the nomination phase, the Research Office's Laureate Fellowships team will work with endorsed nominees on the preparation of their applications to ARC.

Application Process

If your internal nomination is successful, proceed with the application as below:

Step 1. RMS updates and scheme reading

  • Update your full profile in RMS ‘Person Profile’. If any team members are new to RMS and need a login/password, start early.
  • Familiarise yourself with the key Australian Research Council (ARC) and UQ documentation.

Step 2. Completing the application

Step 3. UQ R&I internal review and feedback

  • Ahead of internal review, ensure all online components are complete and valid, generate a whole Application PDF for your records and select 'Submit to Research Office' in RMS to submit the application.
  • To initiate review, email your completed FL24 Application Certification Form to UQ R&I at arc-discovery@research.uq.edu.au
  • If lodging a Request Not to Assess, complete the form in RMS  by the internal closing date.
  • Internal review by UQ R&I/feedback provided (compliance/eligibility/grantsmanship).

Step 4. Final submission

  • Final submission by UQ R&I to the ARC.

Rejoinders and rebuttal

In the ARC assessment and rejoinder process, application comments from external assessors will be made available to applicants, who may be given the opportunity to submit a rejoinder.

UQ R&I works closely with individual applicants in submitting Australian Laureate Fellowship rejoinders and for this reason does not provide institution-wide workshops or seminars.

Detailed information on the rejoinder process (including instructions for accessing assessment reports and submitting rejoinders) is available from the ARC website. The UQ R&I internal deadline for rejoinders is shown in the Key Dates section.
